Canon introduced new lenses

Canon announces three new RF hybrid lenses, joining the growing lineup of L-series prime and zoom lenses for the EOS R system. The RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM Z, RF 50mm F1.4L VCM and RF 24mm F1.4L VCM are part of a new range of hybrid lenses that offer important video recording features such as smooth aperture ring control, an 11-blade circular aperture, fast and efficient low-light performance, as well as advanced optics and reduced focus breathing – all features that are beneficial for both photographers and videographers. This hybrid lens technology, made possible by Canon's innovative RF lens mount, addresses the evolving needs of professionals who, in search of the ideal lens, are willing to cross the boundary between both worlds.

Canon RF 50mm F1.4L VCM

A hybrid lens designed for stills and video

The RF 50mm F1.4L VCM and RF 24mm F1.4L VCM are the same size as the other hybrid prime lens, the RF 35mm F1.4L VCM, both offering a wide f/1.4 aperture, which is an advantage in low light, and thanks to the Nano USM motor and Voice Coil Motor³, the lenses feature extremely fast autofocus and almost silent operation. They can also perform in challenging conditions thanks to the L-series4 construction, which incorporates high-quality lenses and a weatherproof lens seal. A fluorine coating prevents dirt from adhering to the front elements, and a dedicated lens control ring and customisable function button provide perfect control.

These three hybrid lenses are designed to reflect and satisfy the needs of the merging video and stills market, and are equipped with convenient videography features such as an aperture control ring², minimal focus breathing, and smooth focusing, to provide a higher level of creative control and superior image quality.

Canon RF 70-200mm F2.8L IS USM Z

The lens is also compatible with Canon's RF extenders (sold separately), and for smooth zoom adjustment, the PZ-E2 and PZ-E2B motorised zoom adapters are available on the market, which can be used manually or remotely via Canon's Camera Connect / EOS Utility apps, the Browser Remote function, or over IP via Canon's XC protocol with compatible cameras. The 20-pin interface of the PZ-E2B is also compatible with Canon's motorised zoom grip for more convenient control, as well as with zoom/focus controllers for various studio applications.

Canon RF 24mm F1.4L VCM

A hybrid lens designed for stills and video, this 24mm wide-angle prime lens – with a wide f/1.4 aperture, super-sharp optics, and useful video recording features – is ideal for captivating landscapes, architecture, and more.

The RF 24mm F1.4L VCM, which is about 20 percent lighter than its EF predecessor, offers a wide-angle view that is great for shooting landscapes, architecture, and interiors, as well as outdoor portraits, videography, and video interviews where showing context is important. The two prime lenses have the same size and shape as the other hybrid prime models, making them more convenient to use with a gimbal.

For creative stills and immersive video, the RF 24mm F1.4L VCM unites both worlds. Nano USM and Voice Coil Motor provide exceptional speed and almost silent operation thanks to the lens's optical design.

RF 7.8mm f4 STM DUAL

Add a whole new dimension

The innovative RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens is designed to make creating realistic, high-quality 3D stills and video more accessible than ever. When combined with an APS-C camera, this lens provides a compact and affordable method for creating three-dimensional video – while maintaining the high optical performance of the EOS R system.

It offers a natural 63-degree field of view, precisely matching human vision, to create an immersive experience in the world of three-dimensional imaging, achieving emotional depth and vivid realism. Currently compatible with EOS R71 (with potential for gradual compatibility expansion in the future), the RF-S 7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens allows creators to capture three-dimensional video that can be viewed not only through high-end VR headsets but also through smartphones in combination with VR glasses, cardboard VR headsets, and even through handheld devices for viewing printed images.

Extremely practical with a weight of only 130g, equipped with an easy-to-use STM AF system, it offers the possibility of capturing 3D stills and video to a wide range of users for realistic coverage of cultural events or presentation of high-end products or real estate and hotels in three-dimensional stills and video.

In addition to the easy and efficient workflow, the EOS VR Utility application will be updated to create three-dimensional video for Apple Vision Pro headsets, allowing content captured with products from the Canon EOS VR System range to be exported in MV-HEVC format using an Apple Mac computer.
