About the product
Capture everything with expanded ISO sensitivity
Capture usable images in near-total darkness with an impressive ISO range up to 4096001. The full-frame sensor combined with innovative light capture ensures unlimited shooting possibilities.
Stunning bokeh and full-frame creativity
Realize beautiful 4K images with creative freedom thanks to the full-frame sensor. Capture every detail of the scene with shallow depth of field and stunning bokeh for a truly cinematic look.
Cinematic color accuracy with S-Cinetone™
Color via S-Cinetone, developed for Sony's acclaimed FX9, is the default look for FX6. Precisely engineered to meet the demands of today's content creators with rich color and natural skin tones, it produces fresh and vibrant images directly from the camera, without grading, while retaining sufficient freedom for post-production.
Large pixels deliver high sensitivity and low noise
The full-frame, 10.2-megapixel2 Exmor R™ CMOS sensor captures light impressively. Fast readout speeds and a dynamic range of 15+ stops ensure amazing image quality, high sensitivity, and reduced noise.
Powerful BIONZ XRTM image processor
The BIONZ XR image processing engine matches the sensor's high readout speed with immense processing power. It delivers high-quality images and significantly improves camera interface responsiveness with future-proof power.
Impressive dynamic range for boundless expression
At its base sensitivity of ISO8003, the FX6 offers optimal dynamic range for well-lit interiors and outdoor documentary footage. Enhanced sensitivity of ISO 128003 is provided for challenging low light, for morning and evening shots. The FX6 offers an exceptional 15+ stops of dynamic range – beyond the perception of the human eye in many conditions – allowing for unprecedented creative freedom in color grading and post-processing.
Fast Hybrid AF for accuracy and consistent results
The wide AF coverage uses smart tracking and phase detection via the sensor to consistently follow the subject across almost the entire frame (the 6274-point phase detection AF covers approx. 89% of the image). The Hybrid AF system provides precise focusing even when shooting with shallow depth of field and at 120p frame rates in 4K (QFHD)5.
With Eye AF and real-time face detection
Eye AF and real-time face detection ensure stable focusing for interviews, events, and similar. Advanced real-time processing ensures accurate focus on eyes even when looking down or up at sharp angles, allowing the operator to concentrate entirely on composing the best shot.
Strong focus control for solo operators
By selecting AF speed at 7 levels and AF subject shift sensitivity at 5 levels, you can be more expressive when changing subjects or changing the focus point within the frame.
AF subject selection from the lens ring
With AF Assist, rotating the focus ring switches from autofocus to manual focus, so different subjects can be quickly selected. AF re-engages when the lens focus ring rotation stops.
Autofocus area/positioning
For autofocus, you can set the target area around a flexible spot, zone, wide area, and quickly change the target area's positioning during shooting by simply touching the LCD monitor.
Autofocus area/positioning

Autofocus with Sony E-mount lenses
Experience smooth autofocus with Sony E-mount lenses with premium optical performance and cinematic craftsmanship in challenging conditions. The unique drive technology in Sony E-mount lenses provides faster and more precise autofocus, thus assisting your creative pursuits.
Built-in electronic variable ND filter
The FX6 incorporates a unique built-in electronic variable neutral density (ND) filter. Unlike conventional optical ND filters, the FX6's electronic ND filter can be controlled linearly from 1/4ND to 1/128ND or set to auto mode. Ideal for variable environments – no need to change filters with changing light conditions or to preserve depth of field.
Lightweight, modular, robust
Despite its light 0.89 kg body, the magnesium alloy FX6 is sturdy enough for intensive work. The detachable smart grip puts key functions right at your fingertips, and can be easily adjusted with a single button.
Mobility for instant shooting
Ideal for low-angle shooting, the smart handle is part of the FX6's modular design. It is easy to reconfigure for any application, including mounting on a stabilizer, drone, or in an underwater housing.
Magnesium body and frame for more durability and lightness
For reliability in challenging environments, the main body, covers, and top handle are made from tried-and-tested, lightweight magnesium alloy. The main body achieves high durability and strength with minimal weight to maximize mobility.
No more overheating shutdowns
The ventilation system and design help prevent overheating shutdowns7 at high frame rates and when shooting in 4K (QFHD) resolution. The number of heat dissipation units, the shape of the ventilation inlet/outlet ports, the fan location8, as well as the airflow itself, ensure optimal ventilation.
10-bit 4:2:2 recording
Record directly to the device with amazing 10-bit depth saturation and 4:2:2 color sampling for much greater flexibility in image grading, post-processing, and compositing.
All-Intra encoding available
In addition to Long GOP, All-Intra encoding is now provided. It encodes each frame individually at a bitrate up to 600 Mbps to capture complex movements more accurately and for more efficient editing work.

16-bit SDI RAW data output
For more complex post-production processes, there is a 16-bit RAW data output via an SDI connection to external recorders, while XAVC-I files are captured in-camera. The RAW video output is for 4096 x 2160 or 3840 x 2160 data from the image sensor with a choice of the following frame rates: 59.94, 50, 29.97, 25, 24, 23.989.
Shooting modes specifically for you
The FX6 offers shooting modes with preset looks, like S-Cinetone, which create great footage right at the time of shooting, or S-Log3/S-Gamut3 with Cine-EI mode, which captures perfectly exposed footage for post-production.
Scene File allows on-the-fly look changes
For SDR shooting, four preset file types are available (S-Cinetone, Standard, Still, ITU709) and two for HDR (HLG Live, HLG Natural), plus 16 slots for imported user LUTs for your preferred look without post-production.
Remarkable smart grip and smart handle
Sony's ergonomic smart grip and smart handle feature easy, single-button adjustment. Thanks to zoom functions, recording, and programmable buttons and a dial suitable for iris control, you can easily work for hours.
Professional connectivity
A wide selection of professional interfaces is available, including 12G-SDI and HDMI outputs10, a remote interface, TC connectors for multi-camera synchronization, and SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps (USB 3.2) for smooth workflow.
Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe
Sony's Multi-Interface (MI) shoe provides power, signal, and switching connectors for compatible Sony accessories, including wireless microphone systems such as the UWP-D21 or UWP-D2211.
Support for four-channel audio input and recording
Four-channel audio input allows simultaneous capture from external microphones and the built-in microphone. UWP wireless microphones or XLR audio adapters, such as the XLR-K3M, can also be used with the MI shoe.
Dual XLR inputs and enhanced audio capability
The FX6 handle features two independent audio inputs, easily accessible XLR connectors for connecting external professional microphones. UWP series wireless microphones can also be connected via the MI shoe.
Recording with Atomos Ninja V+
Capture 16-bit linear RAW in a visually lossless 12-bit log Apple ProRes RAW format and make maximum use of Sony’s state of the art Exmor R CMOS full-frame 6K image sensor, using a single BNC cable to the camera’s 12G-SDI port.
The recorded 12-bit log format lets you capture 68 billion colour graduations preserving every important detail in your image, while still maintaining practical data rates. The recorded files are extremely clean, preserving the maximum dynamic range, color accuracy and every detail, allowing for greater creativity in post-production with perfect skin tones and easily matched colours, ideal for both HDR and SDR (Rec.709) workflows.
The back-illuminated CMOS image sensor also uses Sony’s Exmor R technology for improved sensitivity and noise reduction, leading to cleaner RAW images.
