About the product
The Varotal/i FF lineup are the successors to the original Cooke Varotal zoom lens designed for motion capture.
The Varotal/i FF series offers excellent optical performance with an entirely new design, bringing distortion, aberrations and breathing to an absolute minimum.
The lenses cover focal lengths from 19mm to 215mm, and are colour balanced and matched to ensure consistency and compatibility with other Cooke lenses like the S7/i FF and S8/i FF (at T2.8). This gives a lot of flexibility to the Varotal series and they can augment prime lenses as part of a system to achieve the well-known today signature Cooke Look.
The Varotal/i FF remove the compromise often associated with zoom lenses and offer an image that is commensurate with prime lenses, allowing cinematographers endless creative possibilities. All three lenses feature a constant aperture of T2.9 at all focal lengths, ensuring consistency.
The lens series also incorporates Cooke's /i technology, which allows acess to key lens data such as focusing distance, iris and zoom position, motion inertial data and maps - factory calibated shading and distortion data. This eliminates guesswork in post and allows for a faster workflow.
