About the product
The Ember S5K from Freefly Systems is a lightweight, cube-shaped cinema camera aimed at shooting high-speed content. At 100mm wide and around 800 grams, it offers portability and flexibility in terms of rigging and use case scenarios. The compactness of the camera, as well as the option for remote trigger and the global shutter the Ember S5K offers makes it excel as a helmet cam, crash cam, drone work and other use cases.
The Ember S5K can record up to 809 fps at 5K 2.37:1, up to 1011 fps at 4K 2.37:1. Other options for recording include traditional 16:9 and 17:9, with the option to achieve higher fps by cropping down on the sensor to 3K and 2K, with the maximum frate rate at cropped 16:9 2K being 1487 fps.
The built-in SSD provides reliable recording, with an optional upgrade offered by Freefly to a pSLC SSD - a different technology which is even more robust and is rated for 80 Petabytes of data or over 10,000 hours of continuous recording. The camera allows you to continuously record until media is full, or you can setup a custom trigger with user defined pre and post trigger roll. The modularity of the Ember S5K also allows for near infinite rigging possibilities - from complex multicam setups to gimbal, tripod and handheld configurations.
The recording format of the S5K is ProRes 422 LT.
