Creative Look creates visual moods directly in the camera
The Creative Look function makes it easy to create visual moods directly in the camera. 12 presets are provided, including [FL2] and [FL3] options. Presets can be used as they are, or can be edited to create custom visual styles. Use seven parameters to adjust contrast, saturation, highlights, shadows, and more, while monitoring the results on the monitor display. Custom visual styles can be saved for later use.
Advanced RAW processing provides enhanced RAW file creation
The Imaging Edge Desktop application now includes an advanced RAW processing function, which allows you to take full advantage of the large amount of information in RAW image files for enhanced RAW file creation, especially with moving subjects. Use [Extended NR] for extremely low noise while maintaining full resolution, or try [Extended Hi-Res] for 4x the normal number of pixels and reduced noise.
5-axis optical image stabilization for up to 7.5-stop central and 6.5-stop peripheral stabilization
An advanced optical image stabilization unit, gyro sensors, and algorithm accurately detect and correct camera shake. Handheld shooting without the need to increase sensitivity is possible with up to 7.5-stop central and up to 6.5-stop peripheral stabilization. Benefit from compatible lenses for better stabilization, as the camera effectively suppresses shake even when shooting with telephoto focal lengths. [1] Yaw [2] Roll [3] Pitch
More efficient, light RAW format
The light RAW format achieves high image quality in smaller files that are easier to manage. The [Compressed (HQ)] format provides even better compression for light RAW format files, prioritizing image quality, while the [Compressed] format allows for extended shooting.
Reliable Real-time Tracking
AI-based Real-time Tracking accurately focuses on the selected subject and tracks it when the shutter button is pressed halfway. If the subject cannot be recognized or object recognition AF is turned off, Sony's original algorithm processes colors, patterns, and spatial data at high speed for reliable focusing and tracking. If [Touch Tracking] is enabled, simply touch a subject on the monitor to instantly select it for tracking.
759-point focal plane AF with phase detection AF
759 AF points in a high-density focal plane phase detection AF system cover approximately 94% of the image area for precise focusing. The processing engine processes the large volume of data from the sensor in real time to ensure ideal focus even in difficult conditions such as shooting small subjects or night scenes where focus often falls on the background.
Real-time Recognition AF: Human Pose Estimation Technology
AI processing in the new BIONZ XR2 processing engine improves recognition by approximately 30% compared to the α7 IV. Human pose estimation technology uses detailed shape and posture data to achieve reliable recognition of the human eye, as well as body and head position, even with challenging subjects. Multiple subjects can also be recognized, making it possible to track the desired subject.
Pre-shooting for moments before the shutter is pressed
Capture that decisive moment, even if it's in the past. With this function, pressing the shutter button halfway to set focus allows the camera to capture a series of images starting up to one second before the shutter is fully pressed.
Increased speed for intense action shots
Use the one-button continuous shooting speed boost to temporarily change the continuous shooting speed at any time while shooting a series. For example, you can instantly switch from the standard burst speed to a higher one when the crucial moment occurs. This feature is best used when you can roughly anticipate the moment of the desired shot, and is now available even when shooting single frames.
Precise autofocus in low light
The latest AF algorithms achieve high AF precision down to illumination levels such as EV-4.0 in AF-S mode (ISO 100 equivalent, F2.0 lens), so autofocus is precise even in low light.
Exceptional stabilization with Dynamic Active Mode
Dynamic Active Mode adds electronic stabilization to the optical stabilization system for an even better effect. This improves stabilization by approximately 30% more than in Active Mode alone, making it possible to capture smooth stable images even while running with the camera.
Auto Framing automatically adjusts composition
Auto Framing uses AI subject recognition to automatically keep the subject centered when shooting video, even when the camera is stationary—ideal for interviews, musical performances, cooking, and much more. You can also set the moment Auto Framing starts, the subject size in the frame, and the tracking speed. [1] LCD monitor [2] Recorded footage
7K oversampling for 4K 60p with full sensor readout and no pixel binning
The new BIONZ XR2 processor and Exmor RS sensor provide full sensor readout, with no pixel binning, in full-frame recording. This allows 3.3x the data required for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160) to be compressed into incredibly detailed 4K 60p images with minimal moiré and jaggies.
Shooting marks simplify footage extraction
Enable this function before operation, so that any frames with shooting marks during video recording are automatically extracted and saved as still images when recording ends. You can also extract and save other frames as still images after recording is complete.
4-axis monitor maximizes shooting mobility
The four-axis multi-angle monitor tilts up 98°, down 40°, and sideways 180°, and when opened can rotate up to 270°. Its 3.2-inch 2.1 million-dot touch-sensitive display panel (3:2 aspect ratio) has a wide color gamut and provides clear visibility even in bright light. [Monitor Low Bright] reduces brightness and battery drain when the camera has not been used for a preset period of time.
S-Log3 supports post-production workflows
The S-Log3 gamma profile helps maintain smooth, natural gradations from shadows to mid-gray (18% gray), making it easier to grade for high image quality in post-production. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine color spaces are supported. Imported user LUT files (.cube)
can be used as an alternative to preset picture profiles (PPLUT 1 to 4) to provide the final processed result. [1] Before grading [2] Graded
Durable magnesium alloy chassis
Lightweight and durable magnesium alloy is used for the top cover, front cover, internal frame, and rear cover. The grip and front cover are manufactured as a single unit for greater rigidity, and the base is secured with six screws for added strength. This provides maximum durability in shooting conditions where lenses of various sizes and weights, such as super telephoto lenses, are required.
Efficient heat dissipation
Efficient heat dissipation allows continuous recording of 4K 60p 4:2:0 8-bit video for approximately 90 minutes.
A unique sigma-shaped graphite component embedded in the image stabilization unit allows the sensor, which is a major heat source in the camera body, to move freely during image stabilization while efficiently dissipating heat for extremely efficient cooling.
Designed for comfort
The α7 V has been refined for improved grip and handling to minimize fatigue, especially when using heavy telephoto lenses or during extended shooting. The grip fits comfortably in the palm, and the location and angle of the shutter button are carefully designed for easy access.
Advanced Wi-Fi connectivity for wireless transfer and remote connection
Built-in Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11ax) with 2x2 MIMO support provides high-speed wireless connectivity that is significantly improved compared to the α7 IV. 5 GHz and 6 GHz band communication ensures maximum speed and stability with minimal interference for news and sports shooters who need to transmit instantly via FTP, as well as for studio environments.
Two USB Type-C® ports
As an upgrade to its predecessor, the α7 V offers two USB Type-C ports with USB PD (Power Delivery) support, so you can connect a compatible charger or external battery to supply power or charge the internal battery. The Power Delivery capacity is now 3-4 times higher than with the α7 IV. PORT 1 supports SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps (USB 3.2) for high-speed backup and remote PC connection, while PORT 2 supports Hi-Speed USB 480 Mbps (USB 2.0) for USB communication.
