About the product

Newly Developed 33 MP Back-Illuminated CMOS Sensor
The full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS sensor delivers exceptional speed and superb image quality. The use of copper wiring contributes to higher transmission speeds and faster AD conversion, while rapid readout from the sensor enables 10-bit 4:2:2 4K recording at up to 60p. The sensor also provides improved color reproducibility, low noise at all sensitivities, a dynamic range of over 15 stops in stills, and increased AF precision and focal stability.

BIONZ Xr™ Processor for up to 8x Processing Speed
The BIONZ XR system, also used in the flagship α1 and α7S III models, provides up to an 8x increase in processing speed. The system concentrates real-time AF processing, image recognition, and image quality adjustment to minimize processing delay, significantly increasing the processing power for videos and stills. UI, network, and file management processing is distributed to maintain quick response regardless of the real-time processing load.

Beautiful Image Rendering with Low Noise
The tangible benefits of the powerful new 33MP sensor and system extend beyond mere numbers. They include soft, natural-looking human skin textures, a stunning level of detail in landscapes and scenes, and better color reproduction with higher subjective resolution resulting from improved algorithms. The standard ISO 100-51200 sensitivity range is expandable to ISO 50-204800 for stills and ISO 100-102400 for videos with low noise throughout the range.

4K 60p Recording, 4:2:2 10-bit Recording
The α7 IV provides an impressive range of video recording options. Full pixel readout without binning allows for 4K 60p recording, and when recording 4K videos at 30p, full-frame 7K oversampling creates highly detailed 4K with high resolution. 10-bit 4:2:2 video can be recorded internally, allowing for richer, more natural gradations and greater editing freedom. The XAVC HS™ file format provides approximately double the encoding efficiency of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264.

Set the Mood with Built-In Creative Look
Expand your creative palette with a choice of ten preset Creative Look settings. You can easily impart a specific mood to your photos, videos, and live streams, and all preset selections are available in-camera without post-editing, so you can share your vision immediately after shooting.

Smoother Gradation Rendering with 10-bit HEIF Recording
The α7 IV offers HEIF (High Efficiency Image File) encoding for stills in addition to conventional RAW and JPEG. Smooth 10-bit gradations provide more realistic reproduction of skies and portrait subjects, and using 10-bit depth minimizes image quality degradation during editing. HEIF images recorded in HLG mode can be played back on a compatible BRAVIA 4K TV via HDMI connection for display of images with exceptionally wide dynamic range.

Smooth Skin Effect for a Bright and Beautiful Skin Tone
The built-in Smooth Skin Effect enhances skin appearance, softening wrinkles, blemishes, and dull areas while preserving vibrancy in the areas around the eyes and mouth. Complementing the capabilities of the full-frame sensor, this feature can add appeal to streaming sessions as well as enhance stills and videos. Four level settings are available, so you can adjust the degree of the effect as desired.

Beautiful Color Expression is Now Easy with S-Cinetone™
The α7 IV supports S-Cinetone, based on expertise gained through the development of the VENICE CineAlta camera. This look is responsible for the beautiful skin tones that Cinema Line cameras, such as the FX9, FX6, and FX3, are renowned for. It delivers natural mid-tones for healthy skin color, plus soft colors and superb highlights. Since it's built into the camera, it's easy to create a more expressive look for your video images without post-editing.

S-Log for Color Matching with Professional Video Equipment
The α7 IV provides S-Log2 and S-Log3 gamma curves, with the latter allowing for a dynamic range of over 15 stops. With S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine color gamut settings, it's easy to match α7 IV footage with footage from VENICE digital cinema cameras or Cinema Line cameras, such as the FX6 and FX3. The base sensitivity when shooting with S-Log is ISO 800, and it can be lowered by two stops (ISO 200 – 640) below the standard range for even lower noise.

Buffer Memory Supports Continuous Shooting and Recording
Both mechanical and electronic shutters enable continuous shooting at up to 10 fps with AF/AE tracking. The latest powerful processor and increased buffer memory allow for faster recording to memory cards, so you can capture over 800 uncompressed RAW + JPEG frames (more than 1600 total) or over 1000 compressed RAW + JPEG frames (more than 2000 total, until the memory card is full). Increased processing power also allows you to change menu settings even while data is being written to the memory card.

5-Axis In-Body Stabilization for 5.5-Stop Compensation
The α7 IV's stabilizer and gyro sensors work with stabilization algorithms to achieve up to 5.5-stop shutter speed compensation, maximizing the performance of the camera's 33.0-megapixel sensor. This in-body stabilization enables effective use with a wide range of lenses. The live view tracking displays the stabilized shot while the shutter button is half-pressed, which is a particularly useful feature when using a telephoto or macro lens and can be used in conjunction with the MF assist and manual focus magnifier functions.

Handheld Video Shooting with Active Mode
Active Mode uses the camera's stabilization unit, gyro sensors, and sophisticated algorithms for highly effective, in-body optical image stabilization during video shooting. The powerful processor precisely detects the necessary amount of compensation for smooth stabilization in all formats, including 4K, without compromising the α7 IV's compact size and mobility. And since gyroscope data is also recorded along with the video, even more effective post-production stabilization can be applied for ultra-smooth shots using Catalyst Browse/Prepare software.

Fast Hybrid AF with Improved Speed, Precision, and Tracking
Using a combination of phase-detection AF and contrast-detection AF, the fast hybrid AF precisely focuses even on small subjects or on people against a night background. The wide and dense AF area covers roughly 94% of the image area for stills and videos with 759 phase-detection points, while the contrast-detection AF system uses 425 points. This vast collection of data is analyzed in real time by the latest powerful processor to achieve the impressive results of the AF system.

Bird AF Mode with Real-time Eye AF, Now Available in Movies
Real-time Eye AF is now capable of detecting and tracking the eyes of birds in real time for both stills and video. The BIONZ XR system works with optimized AF and tracking algorithms to provide continuous tracking even for birds in flight, whose movement is difficult to predict. Once a bird is selected, the camera will automatically detect and precisely track the bird's eye, whether the bird is perched or in flight.

AI-Based Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking
The BIONZ XR system's premium processing power has led to improvements in Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking functions. Enhanced face detection now boasts 30% better eye recognition accuracy, while faster image processing delivers higher accuracy when the subject is looking up, down, or sideways. Real-time Tracking allows you to select your subject and then let the camera do the tracking, relying on the latest subject recognition algorithm and high-speed spatial data analysis from the processor.

AF Control via Touch Operations
Touch Tracking allows you to select a subject to track by simply touching the LCD screen, even when using the viewfinder, for more intuitive AF control for both stills and videos. Easier focusing is particularly useful when shooting video alone or using a stabilizer, allowing you to concentrate on the composition of your shots.

AF Assist for Seamless Transitions to Manual Focus
The AF Assist function, inherited from the Cinema Line FX6, allows you to seamlessly switch to and from manual focus during video shooting. When this function is enabled, rotating the focus ring temporarily switches operation from autofocus to manual focus to allow you to intentionally shift your focus to another subject.

Visualize Depth of Field During Video Shooting with Focus Map
The new Focus Map overlays focus information onto a live display to show which areas are in or out of focus. The ability to clearly visualize depth of field in this way makes it easier to quickly set the ideal focus point and depth of field during rehearsal. As a result, you can leverage the camera's excellent video clarity and fast lenses to create impressive shots with shallow depth of field.

Breathing Compensation Function for Consistent Angle of View When Focusing
For the first time in the α series – the α7 IV provides compensation for "focus breathing." "Focus breathing" is any change in the lens's angle of view that corresponds to changes in focus. Clear Image Zoom, Sony's original technology, is used to automatically maintain a constant angle of view for more cinematic focus transitions. This function can be used in conjunction with image stabilization in active mode for capturing stable, consistent images.

Still/Movie/S&Q Ring for Quick Access to Hybrid Capabilities
Befitting the α7 IV's status as a true hybrid camera, it is equipped with a dedicated Still/Movie/S&Q ring for instant switching between videos and stills. The ring switches menus, functions, and customized settings of various controls between still and video modes, and certain settings, such as aperture and shutter speed, are also maintained separately for stills and videos. S&Q mode can also be selected for quick access to slow or quick motion shooting.

Latest Mode-Specific Menus and Customizable Rear R Dial
The α7 IV's menus are specific to stills or videos, and for easier navigation, menus are configured to display three levels of hierarchy at once. Separate functions for stills and video can be assigned to different buttons and dials, including the new, freely customizable rear R dial. With controls specifically tailored to the shooting mode you are currently using, the flexible access provided by the rear R dial greatly contributes to improved efficiency when shooting stills and videos.

Vari-Angle LCD Monitor for More Shooting Freedom
The large, side-opening 3.0-type LCD monitor with a 1.03-megadot touch panel offers ample brightness for clear viewing in outdoor settings, and its 3:2 aspect ratio makes efficient use of the display area. The vari-angle mechanism allows for flexible positioning and framing for handheld shots, mounted on a stabilizer or for solo documentary-style shooting or very low-level shots close to the ground.

High-Resolution 3.68 Megadot Quad-VGA OLED Viewfinder
The α7 IV's Quad-VGA OLED viewfinder provides approximately 1.6 times better resolution than the α7 III's viewfinder, with a 37.3° FOV and a 23mm eyepoint. With high resolution, improved electronic viewfinder image quality, and fog and dust resistance (including significantly improved internal fog resistance compared to the α7 III), it is designed for clear and comfortable viewing in a wide range of shooting environments.

Communication Functions for Easy Sharing and Distribution
The α7 IV is equipped with robust wired and wireless communication functions for more convenient sharing and distribution. The built-in wireless LAN uses a 5 GHz band in addition to a 2.4 GHz band for fast data transfer. Background FTP file transfer can be set to automatic mode during shooting, and the USB Type-C® connector supports fast SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 2) data transfer.

Instant Live Streaming via USB Connection
Live streaming is as easy as connecting to a computer via USB, and you can choose from four different output formats, including high-resolution 4K video. You can select the best configuration for current network conditions and devices used, while internal recording is also available, giving you great flexibility to cover a wide variety of needs.

High-Capacity Z Batteries and USB Power Delivery
The α7 IV relies on the high-capacity Z battery (NP-FZ100) along with external power options, which include USB power and AC adapters. Battery drain can be minimized by adding a high-capacity portable battery for outdoor shooting. A USB charger or portable battery that supports USB PD can be connected to the camera's USB Type-C® port for extended recording.

Heat Management
To enable prolonged continuous recording, Sony's specially developed Σ (sigma) shaped thermal mounting mechanism ensures efficient heat dissipation. The mounting mechanism, also used in flagship models, is made of graphite material with excellent thermal conductivity properties. This structure allows the sensor, a primary heat source inside the camera body, to move freely during image stabilization while heat is efficiently dissipated.

Dual media slots with CFexpress Type A support
Dual media slots allow you to continue shooting even if one memory card fills up. One of the slots supports high-performance CFexpress Type A cards, and both slots support UHS-I and UHS-II SDXC/SDHC cards. With their high write speeds, CFexpress Type A cards are particularly suitable for high-speed continuous shooting, as well as for recording high-resolution 4K video at high bit rates.

Reliable, solid engineering
We have improved the water and dust resistance of the α7 IV to ensure exceptional reliability even in challenging outdoor environments. Design enhancements include more sealing on the body joints and battery compartment cover (compared to the α7 III), a redesigned lens lock button, and additional cushioning around the lens mount. A lightweight but extremely rigid magnesium alloy, used for the top cover, front cover, and internal frame of the camera, ensures excellent durability.

Environmental considerations and rational use of resources
Sony's "Road to Zero" environmental plan launched in 2010, with the ultimate goal of achieving a zero environmental footprint. Currently, almost all plastic packaging materials for the α7 IV are recycled. Recyclable materials are also used for camera bodies where possible, reducing the environmental impact without compromising functionality. By maintaining the most advanced performance, we aim to further reduce energy and resource consumption to minimize environmental impact.
