Sony introduces the long-awaited FE 85 f/1.4 G Master II portrait lens
The next-generation 85mm full-frame E-mount lens FE 85 f/1.4 G Master II features high resolution and stunning bokeh with fast autofocus, ideal for portrait photography and cinematic quality video.
Today, Sony introduces the FE 85 f/1.4 G Master II – a top-tier lens that combines high resolution and stunning bokeh with fast autofocus (AF) in a compact size. It inherits the optical design of the first-generation model, but the excellent bokeh and resolution are now complemented by the latest technologies. Combined with Sony's latest Alpha™ series cameras, it is an ideal choice for a variety of creative projects, including flawless video and photo capture for portraits, weddings, travel, and more.

High Optical Performance and Beautiful Bokeh
The advanced optical design of the Sony FE 85 f/1.4 G Master II makes it an ideal choice for portrait photography.
The lens is equipped with two XA (extreme aspherical) elements and two ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses, which effectively suppress aberrations. This combination achieves high resolution from edge to edge. Sony's original AR Coating II technology successfully reduces unwanted flare and ghosting for clear and sharp images. The special 11-blade circular aperture and optimized spherical aberrations provide the beautiful, soft bokeh, a hallmark of the G Master series.
Fast, Precise, and Quiet Autofocus
The flexible autofocus of the Sony FE 85 f/1.4 G Master II maximizes the speed advantage of high-end cameras. For stills, it is up to 3 times faster[i] compared to the previous model[ii] and precisely tracks moving subjects. It seamlessly maintains the speed of the Alpha 9 III during continuous shooting at 120fps[iii], and subject tracking performance is improved by a full 7 timesii.
Lightweight and Stylish Design
Compared to the previous modelii, the weight of the FE 85 f/1.4 G Master II (642 grams) is approximately 20% lighter[iv], and its volume is reduced by 13%. This is achieved through the latest mechanical technologies and improvements in optical design. The FE 85 f/1.4 G Master II has a filter diameter of φ77 mm, a diameter of 84.7mm, and a length of 107.3mm.
Cinematic Quality Features
For creating videos with smooth transitions at an F1.4 aperture, the Sony FE 85 f/1.4 G Master II uses an XD linear motor. Focus breathing is minimized, and built-in breathing compensation is supported[v]. The lens also has two focus hold buttons and an AF/MF switch, which can be customized according to the shooter's preferences. A separate aperture control ring and the option for linear MF control provide an optimal level of intuitive lens control.
Built to Last
The front element of the lens has a fluorine coating for easy removal of fingerprints, dust, grease, or other contaminants from the lens surface. The dust and moisture resistance[vi] ensures the necessary reliability for outdoor use, even in adverse conditions.
