Sony announces new ZV-E10 interchangeable-lens vlog camera
Sony Electronics Introduces New ZV-E10 Interchangeable Lens Vlog Camera for Vloggers and Video Creators
The ZV-E10 APS-C camera delivers high-quality video and audio with excellent features, functions optimized for vlogging, and versatile connectivity, making it an ideal choice for video creators.
Today, Sony Electronics Inc. introduced the first interchangeable lens camera from the Alpha series for vlogging, the new ZV-E10. Developed entirely to support vloggers and the creation of vlogs, the new camera combines Sony's advanced digital photography technologies for an impressive variety of applications with specially designed functions optimized for video creators.
The ZV-E10 is built on a 24.2-megapixel APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor (approx. effective pixels) and a BIONZ X processor for high-quality images with high sensitivity, more detailed texture reproduction, and a beautiful, natural-looking bokeh. Additionally, the ZV-E10 includes widely acclaimed features specifically developed for vlogging content creation and beloved from the popular ZV-1 digital camera, including the "Background Defocus"1 function, which allows a smooth transition between a defocused (bokeh) and focused background, and the "Product Showcase Setting"2 mode, which automatically shifts focus from the subject's face to the item being presented.
"We are proud to introduce Sony's first interchangeable lens vlog camera, the ZV-E10, to meet the growing needs of today's video creators," said Yang Cheng, Vice President, Digital Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics Inc. "The new ZV-E10 combines the versatility and excellent image quality of large-sensor, interchangeable-lens cameras with user-friendly features specifically designed for vlogging, making it the ideal tool for video creators who want to upgrade to more technologically advanced comprehensive solutions."
The ZV-E10 features a video-focused design in a lightweight body (approx. 343g3) and includes the popular side-opening Vari-angle LCD Screen, which allows for connecting external microphones to the top of the camera. Setup for shooting is now easier, and users can monitor the screen in selfie mode, as well as from high or low angles.
Another important feature of the ZV-E10, in addition to the display, are several other intuitive functions specifically designed for vlogging content creation, including a new Still/Movie/Slow and Quick Motion button located on the top of the camera, which allows creators to easily switch between desired modes with a single touch.
The new camera also offers advanced video features, such as 4K and high-quality Slow Motion video (FHD 120p). Electronic image stabilization can be utilized in Active Mode4 for steady video recording even when walking and shooting handheld. Furthermore, advanced AF (autofocus) technology ensures fast and precise AF with excellent tracking performance, as well as high-quality audio for clear sound recording.
Sony Vlog Challenge
Alongside this, Sony also announced the second Sony Vlog Challenge, inviting participants to create a vlog demonstrating what truly ignites their enthusiasm. The application period begins on July 7, 2021, and video creators from around the world can participate. See the full terms and conditions of the contest here.
Versatile Creative Applications
Interchangeable lens camera for more creative expression possibilities
The ZV-E10 gives users more creative opportunities and allows them to use different lenses for each scene they want to capture. With a wide variety of compatible E-mount lenses from Sony, users can choose the ideal lens depending on their creative vision.
Advanced Autofocus
Sony's industry-leading AF technology allows users to let the camera do all the focusing work and concentrate on framing their shot. The ZV-E10 includes Fast Hybrid AF and Real-time Eye AF for real-time tracking in video mode5 Real-time Tracking6, allowing the camera to track the subject's face and eyes for fast and precise autofocus even when shooting on the move or in challenging environments. Users can set custom AF settings, such as AF Transition Speed and Subject Shift Sensitivity, allowing for selection between fast or slow focusing depending on specific preferences and creative vision.
As an additional option, the ZV-E10's Touch Focus function allows users to adjust the focus position for shots simply by touching the screen. With a single swipe of a finger, the user can instantly change the focus position to an object at the edge of the image. The function is available in both still and video modes.
High-Quality Audio
Sony's market-leading technologies allow the ZV-E10 to capture crystal-clear audio that clearly picks up the speaker's voice, thanks to the built-in directional 3-capsule microphone and included windscreen, which significantly reduces wind noise. For even more audio capabilities, the ZV-E10 includes a digital audio interface via the multi-interface (MI) shoe and a microphone jack for connecting an external microphone. The addition of a headphone jack allows users to connect headphones for precise control over audio recordings. The audio output timing can also be set to Live or Lip Sync mode.
The Subject Always Comes First
When shooting in various locations with sudden changes in lighting, you can rest assured that the ZV-E10 will automatically adjust exposure so that the subject's face is neither underexposed nor overexposed, using the original Face Priority AE (automatic exposure) algorithm, which can perform quick and smooth AE transitions. This way, the camera detects the subject's face and adjusts the exposure accordingly, ensuring that the face is captured with optimal brightness, even when shooting scenes in selfie mode with contrasting lighting changes and even when the subject's face momentarily turns at an angle to the camera. The camera also uses the same advanced color reproduction technologies as the popular ZV-1 to optimize skin tones for any subject in both still and video recording modes.

Designed for Video Creators
Users can work comfortably and easily with their new ZV-E10 thanks to the camera's easy-to-grip body and the large MOVIE record button, which is conveniently located on top of the camera. When using an optional grip with a wireless camera remote control (GP-VPT2BT, sold separately), it is even easier to shoot with one hand thanks to convenient access to zoom and record buttons and customizable buttons. Recording lights are also located on the front of the body, so you can easily tell when the camera is recording. During recording, a red frame also appears on the LCD screen, so users can quickly and easily know if recording is ongoing while behind the camera.
One of the ZV-E10's unique features is the zoom lever, which can control both optical zoom with power zoom lenses and Clear Image Zoom with prime lenses. When the camera is used with a prime lens, users can zoom in on subjects without loss of video resolution to maintain full 4K quality. Users can also choose from 8 zoom speed settings for additional creative freedom.
The ZV-E10 features a long battery life with enough capacity to record up to 125 minutes14 or 440 images15 on a full charge, so users can record for long periods without worry. When shooting indoors, you can also charge with AC power, such as through the optional AC-PW20AM, to continue recording without worrying about battery usage. Power can also be supplied via the USB Type-C® connector, allowing the camera to be powered by external batteries for extended battery life when shooting on the go. To save camera battery, the ZV-E10's rotating LCD display allows you to put the camera into Power Save mode16 by closing it, and shooting begins as soon as you open the display.
Live Streaming
The ZV-E10 can also be used as a high-quality webcam or live streaming camera by simply connecting it to a PC or smartphone17 for more mobility while streaming, without the need for additional software. This feature allows users to take advantage of the exceptional image quality and crystal-clear audio that the ZV-E10 provides, as well as Face Priority AE and Soft Skin Effect features during live streaming or video calls. The ZV-E10 supports standards used for USB cameras such as UVC (USB Video Class) / UAC (USB Audio Class). The ZV-E10 also allows users to connect to power via a USB cable during live streaming itself for longer operating time. For added convenience, users can assign this function to one of the custom buttons and start their recordings immediately.
Easy File and Data Transfer
With Sony's Imaging Edge Mobile18 mobile app, users can transfer selected image files or videos to a mobile device via Wi-Fi. This feature also allows for the transfer of RAW image files. Once the camera is connected to the Imaging Edge Mobile app, location data from files can be retrieved from the mobile device and saved. Users can transfer files from an SD memory card in the camera to a smartphone (mobile device) via Bluetooth, even if the camera's power is off19.
