Nikon Launches the NIKKOR Z 28-135MM F/4 PZ Film Lens
Nikon is launching its first full-frame Z-mount lens specifically designed for cinema. Built to empower solo videographers and small crews, the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ lens allows for high-resolution 8K video capture directly from the camera and is light enough for handheld shooting. Designed to be exceptional, it brings radical changes to the workflow of videographers using full-frame Nikon Z cameras, such as the Z9 and Z8.

With servo-controlled zoom and weighing just 1210g (including tripod collar) for handheld/gimbal use, this cine lens is a compact, well-balanced, and reliable tool for videographers and filmmakers who want to work with minimal equipment. The cinema-specific optical design handles high-resolution 8K video, allowing for great cropping flexibility in post-production and 4K output. Nikon's high-performance glass and optical coatings ensure users can capture remarkably clear video at any distance – even in bright sunlight or studio lighting.

The yellow ring signifies that this Power-zoom is a cine lens for the Z-mount and is compatible with a wide range of professional cinema accessories, including matte boxes and follow focus systems. Key features for videographers include ease-in/ease-out (which removes the need for an external motorized zoom control module) and 11 different zoom speed levels that can be set on the lens's zoom lever. Record and recall position allows users to re-compose shots between takes, linear manual focusing provides accurate, repeatable results, and the focus and zoom ring directions can be reversed. The lens is also dust and moisture sealed and can be remotely controlled.
Dirk Jasper, Product Manager, Nikon Europe, says:
“We are committed to making the Z system the preferred solution for content creators of all levels, and Nikon’s first professional cine lens for Z-mount cameras is an exciting step in that direction. You can rely on this cine lens for stunning results, making it an invaluable tool in situations where time, budget, or circumstances do not allow for reshoots.”

- Cine lens specifically designed for Z-mount: supports high-resolution 8K video, allowing for great cropping flexibility in post-production and 4K output. The yellow ring around the lens mount indicates that this is a cine lens.
- Smooth, balanced Power-zoom function: the internal motor smoothly controls the 28–135mm focal length range and ensures a stable center of gravity.
- Cinema-specific optical design: minimizes distortion at any shooting distance. Meso-Amorphous coating counteracts ghosting and flares, and focus breathing is suppressed.
- Dynamic close-ups: minimum focusing distance of 0.34m from 28mm to 50mm, and 0.57m at 135mm.
- Ease-in/ease-out: for natural deceleration of zoom speed, no external zoom control module is needed.
