Nikolay Kalaydjiev with a Guinness World Record attested by Dynaphos
We did it with Nikolay Ivanov Kalaydzhiev and we have a Guinness World Record for 888 full continuous circles in the air with an ultralight aircraft! The video by Dynaphos Photo & Video served as proof, and we are proud of the result!
On June 18, Niko flew over Lesnovo Airport, and our team with cameras on the ground – 3 inside the aircraft and two outside – monitored the process from before takeoff to landing. The continuous turns, which the 36-year-old pilot performed only to the left, were livestreamed on our Facebook page.
For 4 hours, Hristo Kabadaev and Yulian Georgiev did not leave the cameras that were tracking the pilot in the air, because according to Guinness requirements, the aircraft had to be kept in frame at all times. This required extreme concentration, as the pilot often had to change his position due to the wind.
Other situations that could have provoked an extreme reaction from the film crew until the last moment included questions about whether the memory cards would be sufficient and whether the batteries would last. All this – against the backdrop of uncertainty about how long the flight would actually last – whether it would be the approximately 6 hours initially expected, according to the pilot's own estimates, less or more.
Nikolay Kalaydzhiev completed the 400 turns required for the record in 2 hours and 21 minutes, significantly faster than his preliminary estimates. And in the 4 hours and 31 minutes that Niko circled in the air, he completed the symbolic 888 laps, recognized by Guinness.
Today, on the day the pilot officially announced Guinness' recognition of his record – the third world record in his career – Dynaphos presents you with an action video on our YouTube channel, with which we congratulate Captain Nikolay Kalaydzhiev and wish him clear skies for new records.
We remind you that we also shared with you the pilot's first words after his landing – journalist Ekaterina Kostova, who is the author of many articles on our blog and was part of our team on the ground that day, asked the first questions in his first interview. From an article on our blog and from the products you see on the side of this article, you will recall what equipment we used for filming and streaming. And you can revisit the memorable flight from the event on our Facebook page.
