The EOS R5 Mark II has a similar 60% rolling shutter acceleration, with both models excelling at capturing dynamic action without sacrificing image quality or dynamic range. The new cameras are now equipped with a pre-shoot function of up to 20 frames (for EOS R1) and 15 frames (for EOS R5 Mark II), which are captured in HEIF/JPEG or RAW format at any frame rate before the shutter is pressed, allowing the important moment to be caught even if it was missed. Both models are equipped with large viewfinders with high brightness and resolution without image blackout during shutter release, with the EOS R1 having the highest resolution of 9.44 million dots, and the R5 Mark II offering twice the brightness of the EOS R5.
Thanks to the new image processing platform, the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II offer improved image quality through built-in resolution enhancement and noise reduction functions, utilizing machine learning technology, providing an additional four times greater resolution or reduced noise when using JPEG or HEIF formats through direct in-camera processing. Users can also crop and enlarge the resolution through the camera, making it much easier to send photos without the need for editing via computer applications.
Both cameras are equipped with an image stabilization system for up to 8.5 stops[i] slower shutter speed for effective shooting in low light or other challenging conditions.
For videographers, the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II offer internal 12-bit RAW video recording to the memory card, as well as the use of Cinema EOS video recording formats alongside Canon Log 2 and 3, proxy video recording now fully supported on both cards, and four-channel audio. This elevates professional videography to new heights, providing exceptional quality and creative flexibility regardless of the scenario. The cameras can also capture high-resolution stills and Full HD video simultaneously and support external recording via an HDMI Type A port.
Several professional assistance features ensure fast and stable connectivity and connection redundancy – with multiple routes to delivery destinations for news images/video, as well as support for the C2PA content authenticity standard[ii] and preview of the first video frames. Industry-standard file naming, separate folders for photos/videos, and data exchange via the News ML-G2 standard are also supported. Both models support built-in Wi-Fi6E/11ax 6GHz connectivity, making them the first EOS series cameras to offer new levels of transfer speed, with the EOS R1 also offering built-in 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connectivity and dual-thread FTP, and the EOS R5 Mark II supporting 2.5 Gbps Ethernet connectivity via an optional grip.

Introducing the EOS R1 – Canon's New Flagship Model
