Canon with a new high-end PTZ camera
Canon targets high-end broadcast market with new PTZ camera
Broadcast quality video capture and enhanced connectivity allow broadcasters to operate more efficiently
Sofia, September 8, 2022 – Canon Europe today announces the CR-N700, a PTZ camera that captures 4K60P 4:2:2 10-bit imagery, with 12G-SDI interface, designed for professional broadcast, TV studios and live event productions. Building on Canon’s broadcast heritage, the CR-N700 features Intelligent Auto Focus, seen in popular professional cinema and broadcast cameras such as the EOS C70 and XF605, to achieve pinpoint focus across the PTZ’s entire pan, tilt and zoom range. With its powerful features, this new camera expands Canon’s PTZ range, offering PTZ functionality for all types of productions and technical requirements.

Achieve broadcast quality with ease
To meet the current demands of broadcasters, the CR-N700 features a 1.0-type CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV7 processor to deliver stunning 4K UHD 60P 4:2:2 10-bit imagery for truly immersive content. Ensuring high quality delivery, Canon’s latest PTZ camera allows content creators to stream 4K 60P video over IP – perfect for remote and live event productions. This pristine image quality is also down to the professional lens, which offers 15x optical zoom and 30x advanced zoom when shooting in Full HD. Combined with Canon’s renowned image stabilisation, broadcasters can capture smooth, steady footage even from a distance. This is ideal for shooting TV reality shows, or even sports, where operators want to discretely immerse the viewer in the action. The CR-N700 also features a Night Mode, allowing operators to capture footage in dimly lit environments thanks to an in-built IR filter. Alongside HDR formats PQ or HLG, broadcasters can capture uncompromising footage in any light.
Taking Canon’s PTZ range to the next level, the CR-N700 is equipped with a fast, smart and highly accurate autofocus thanks to Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology with advanced EOS iTR AF X. This AI-powered deep learning technology can accurately track a subject’s head, even when they turn their face away. Eye Detection AF locks focus on a subject’s pupil for even greater precision, whilst Face Priority AF allows operators to prioritise a specific face in the shot. This is perfect for situations where the focus needs to remain on a specific anchor at all times.

Superior connectivity, effortless workflows
Like the whole Canon PTZ range, the CR-N700 supports a variety of protocols for seamless integration into existing workflows. Designed to integrate into broadcasters’ diverse technological ecosystems, the CR-N700 supports SRT and NDI|HX[i] protocols for high quality 4K video streams, whilst FreeD protocol allows integration with virtual productions. Through these protocols, broadcasters can easily create multi-camera setups that suit their needs, and Canon’s XC Protocol enables them to integrate the CR-N700 with other Canon Cinema EOS cameras, such as the EOS C500 Mark II, EOS C300 Mark III or professional camcorders, including the XF605[ii] for a truly flexible setup. It is also possible to match the picture to other Canon cameras through Canon Log 3 and Wide Dynamic Range image settings.
Flexible connectivity includes 12G-SDI and 3G-SDI, HDMI or IP (PoE++) interfaces, which allow for seamless 4K60P video transmission for high-quality broadcast productions. The CR-N700 also includes professional XLR audio inputs and a GEN-LOCK port for various production needs.

Advanced control
Canon’s latest PTZ camera offers the same intuitive control as the other models in the range. The advanced drive mechanism allows for slow and precise movements at 0.1°/second, meaning operators can capture cinematic content. Compatibility with both the RC-IP100 controller and Canon’s Remote Camera Control Application, as well as selected third-party controllers further simplifies integration into existing production setups. With the CR-N700’s cropping function, broadcasters can take two separate video feeds from a single PTZ camera. They can select a specific area of the shot and output it as a separate Full HD video stream. This feature is perfect for productions with limited PTZ cameras on site.
Alongside the CR-N700, Canon today also launches the CN8x15 IAS S E1/P1 lens, EU-V3 expansion unit and new firmware update for Cinema EOS that will enable Canon’s high-end cinema cameras – EOS C300 Mark III and EOS C500 Mark II – to seamlessly integrate into live broadcast workflows. Canon also announces today the DP-V2730, a 27-inch reference display to complement Canon’s 4K display range to offer a solution for all needs, and the XA65, XA60, XA75, XA70 and Canon LEGRIA HF G70 camcorders to meet the demand for live content sharing.
