Canon unveils widest full-frame autofocus zoom lens
Sofia, Bulgaria, 11 October 2023 – Canon Europe today announces the launch of the RF 10-20mm F4L IS STM lens – a new addition to the L-series for professional photographers and videographers. The RF 10-20mm F4L IS STM offers unlimited possibilities, allowing for ultra-wide-angle shots, providing unsurpassed image quality and featuring a compact size.
Superb Ultra-Wide-Angle Shots
The lens builds on the capabilities of the existing RF wide-angle lens range as the widest auto-focus zoom lens ever created for a full-frame camerai, with an angle of view up to 130°. Thanks to the zoom with a range from 20mm wide angle to the unique 10mm ultra-wide angle, users can now achieve a field of view more than twice that of a 16mm focal length lens.

Fitting a larger field of view into the frame allows for stunning views to capture dramatic panoramic shots. Photographers can capture more of the foreground, shoot tight interiors and architecture, and add depth to landscapes, while videographers can be more creative with impressive introductory shots.
Every Detail Exactly As You Need It
The new wide-angle lens delivers unparalleled image quality, achieving incredible sharpness and clarity without distortion.
Designed to the highest standards, the RF 10-20mm F4L IS STM uses the latest Peripheral Control Image Stabilization (IS) technology, providing crystal-clear, blur-free images even in difficult shooting conditions or without a tripod. The new technology provides blur-free images from the center to the periphery of the frame and offers 5-stop optical image stabilization or 6-stop in combination with in-camera image stabilization. The rectilinear optics of the lens ensure sharpness and precision – so straight lines remain straight even at the periphery of the frame thanks to the advanced optical design. The constant maximum aperture of f/4 ensures precise exposure at any zoom setting, and advanced optical coatings minimize glare, which often affects ultra-wide shots.
Advanced technology does not make it difficult to use. The RF mount provides exceptional image quality and a compact lens design, allowing for significantly higher speed and data transfer between cameras and the lens.
Weighing just 570g, the RF 10-20mm F4L IS STM deserves a reserved spot in your camera bag. It is more than twice as light (610g lighter) and 2cm smaller in width and length compared to the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM – in fact, the new lens together with the EOS R8 weighs less than the previous EF model. All these benefits come in combination with the wider angle of view and new IS technology – so not only is shooting in confined spaces easier, but your bag is lighter too.

Designed for Professionals
With superior image quality, greater wide-angle photo and video capabilities, and a lightweight design, the RF 10-20mm F4L IS STM is a significant improvement for photographers and videographers looking to take their capabilities to the next level. While ideal for landscapes or architecture, the lens can also capture different perspectives when covering sports or other events.
The RF 10-20mm F4L IS STM can withstand even the harshest weather conditions, as it is dust and moisture resistant for professional use.
Key features and functions include:
- Aspherical, Super UD and UD optical elements (including one aspherical UD element), which contribute to achieving the high image quality characteristic of an L lens
- Exceptional durability, dust and water resistance for working in harsh weather conditions that professionals have to deal with
- SWC (on 2 lens surfaces) and ASC (Air Sphere Coating) coatings, reducing glare caused by light sources in the frame – a phenomenon often observed with wide-angle lenses
- The first L-series lens equipped with an STM motor and the ability for manual focusing at all times thanks to the compact and lightweight focusing lens system.
