Blackmagic Design laid 12 plus 2 "speckled eggs" this Easter
A generous Easter for all Blackmagic Design product lovers – they released 12 new video products and two more software products.
The biggest "colorful egg" is undoubtedly the new Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K OLPF. The digital cinema camera has the highest resolution to date, and due to the complex OLPF abbreviation, it was immediately added to Netflix's list of approved cameras upon its release. Decoded, the Optical Low Pass Filter (OLPF) is sometimes called an anti-aliasing filter. The filter is built into many digital cameras and is located directly in front of the image sensor. In many digital cameras, the OLPF - also known as an anti-aliasing filter - prevents false colors and moiré, which can degrade the picture. The compromise when using an OLPF is a slight softening of the image. To counteract the softness, in-camera sharpening is used, which can be further adjusted by the end-user.
The next "egg" in the post-holiday basket is the first 4K ATEM video mixer in years. It continues the line of new HD8 mixers, upgrading them to 4K resolution.
Another star appeared in the ATEM constellation, or if we continue with the Easter lexicon - another egg. This is the Blackmagic Design ATEM 4 M/E Constellation 4k. This product shines precisely with its 4K capability, as previous mixers were Full HD.
The new generation video hub, now entirely 12G, is another surprise from Blackmagic Design. This is a video router switcher device, which in one variant has 10 inputs and 10 outputs and allows routing any of the 10 inputs to any of the 10 outputs with the push of a button, rather than with cables. This happens without signal interruption and without artifacts in the picture, allowing the mixing of different resolutions. In other variants, the hubs are 20x20 (meaning - inputs and outputs) and respectively – 40x40.
We arrive at Blackmagic Design's first serious entry into the SMPTE 2110 digital video and audio signal transmission environment. This is the Blackmagic Design 2110 IP Converter 3x3G, which converts 3G SDI signals to SMPTE 2110 and vice versa. What is SMPTE 2110 and for more information – see the article on our blog.
Among the fully digital, IP-based solutions, we can also include the new generation of DeckLink capture cards, grouped under the common denominator IP. These are: Blackmagic Design DeckLink IP HD, Blackmagic Design DeckLink IP HD Optical, Blackmagic Design DeckLink IP/SDI HD.
And now, another new addition to Blackmagic Design's post-production ecosystem: Cloud Dock 2 and Cloud Dock 4. These are devices that allow sharing raw materials and DaVinci Resolve projects among more than 50 users on a given network! They provide connectivity to Google Drive and Dropbox, with the only condition for the cloud dock to work being that you insert your 2.5-inch SSD into one of its slots. The difference between 2 and 4 is precisely in the number of slots, two and four, respectively. In addition to allowing full network control by up to 50 active users, both devices have an HDMI output for connection to a monitor to control traffic and various parameters.

The icing on the cake in Blackmagic Design's new product basket is two innovative software solutions. DaVinci Resolve 18.5 entered public Beta, which can be downloaded for free. It offers qualitatively and quantitatively different changes and innovations compared to the previous version, including not only new tools, effects, and workflow improvements, but also entirely new solutions, among them the use of artificial intelligence. Important news for video teams rushing to meet deadlines for their projects with yet another language they need to transcribe is that with the new automatic speech-to-text feature, subtitles can now be generated faster.

The second software innovation may not be as flashy, as it is extremely practical. But that's a matter of perspective. Because Update 8.1 is for all Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema cameras. This refers to the camera's software itself – the most important thing is that it allows shooting in vertical format, and in addition to rotating the camera controls and menus when operating in vertical mode, it also enables working in this vertical format in DaVinci Resolve.
