Samyang 8mm F3.5 UMC Fish-Eye CS II Review
"Fisheye lenses" are my favorite conflicting lenses. It's like it hurts and itches at the same time. You can easily do without them, but their presence in your camera bag will make you think creatively.
It will not be hidden from our regular readers that every year we have at least one fisheye visiting. I myself really like this type of lens, although it is almost unusable for professional purposes.
I like the image distortion they create and in many cases, I try to enhance it by choosing a low or high viewpoint.
A little backstory.
I first used a lens from the Korean company Samyang about ten years ago. Back then, they were entering the market with their 85/1.4, and I, actively shooting, was looking for a portrait lens with good bokeh. I admit that the results I got then didn't impress me. Yes, an acceptable price, well-functioning mechanics, and slightly above average optics, but the image, the bokeh... something didn't catch my eye.In the following years, I followed what the company was releasing. Here and there in some store, I tried out a lens, but still with some reservation.
Lately, shooting with mirrorless cameras, I've become clever enough to carry only small lenses. I miss a fisheye lens. Unfortunately, they are not always budget-friendly. At Photokina 2016, walking through the halls, I stumbled upon Samyang's booth. There, in addition to the classic lenses for DSLR cameras, a wide range for mirrorless cameras was also revealed. I picked out a few to try, and here, a few months later, I already have the opportunity to test one more seriously.
Samyang 8mm F3.5 UMC Fish-Eye CS II, as is evident from the title, is the topic of our meeting today. Honestly, I've settled on another lens that was made especially for my Oly, but it wasn't available at the moment. I have to wait a little until it arrives. While I wait, I'm playing with the available "eight-shooter"...
