Sony Announces Lightest FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G

The newest addition to Sony's E-mount lens series offers improved image quality and better functionality for all who want to create full-frame content

Sony now offers an impressive 66 E-mount lenses, after announcing the new FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G (SELP1635G) - a wide-angle zoom lens with high image quality, high-performance autofocus, and advanced functionalities, specially designed for the needs of the world's best content creators.

High-Performance AF

The FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G uses, for the first time in the Alpha series, six XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors, an original Sony development, for both the focusing system and the zoom. The fast response time and smooth, quiet operation of this system give users new freedom.​ If using Sony's flagship Alpha 1 body, it is possible to maintain precise focus even when shooting continuously at up to 30 frames per second².

Focus is of paramount importance when shooting slow motion video, in 4K or 8K. When used with α series bodies, the FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G³ is capable of reliably focusing and smoothly and quietly tracking the focused subject, even when it is moving at high speed. The powerful XD linear motors, optimized optical elements, and fast lens control contribute to achieving extremely precise AF, without compromising the convenient and compact size of the lens.

When top-class design and technology come together, you get a compact and lightweight lens that also offers powerful zoom, unprecedented focus quality, and separate rings for zoom and aperture control, making it the ideal choice if you want greater mobility and easier lens handling. The world's lightest⁴ wide-angle zoom lens with a constant F4 aperture, the FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G weighs only 353 grams, which is approximately 30% less than the SEL1635Z, and measures only 80.5 mm x 88.1mm with a filter size of φ72mm.
