The Sony G MASTER FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS is the world's lightest large-aperture prime telephoto lens.

Sony G MASTER FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS е най-лекият в света твърд телефото обектив с широка бленда

Capture dynamic moments such as sports scenes with flexibility and exceptional image quality

November 7, 2023, Sony is proud to announce the release of the world's lightest[i] 300mm fixed telephoto lens G Master™ FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS, a 35mm full-frame α™ (Alpha™) E-mount lens with a maximum aperture of F2.8.

This lens offers the high detail characteristic of the G Master series, as well as high-speed and precise AF (autofocus). In addition, its lightweight design, weighing approximately 1470g (without tripod mount), and excellent weight balance allow you to capture sharp images of dynamic decisive moments, for example when shooting fast-paced sports or animals handheld. It is possible to achieve high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking up to 120 frames per second[ii]. You can track even subjects with complex and unpredictable movements with high precision. The lens is an ideal complement to cameras with light bodies, reducing the burden on the photographer and almost entirely eliminating fatigue resulting from prolonged handheld shooting sessions. The lens is also compatible with a teleconverter, which can be purchased separately[iii] and allows you to shoot in the telephoto range up to 600mm (equivalent to 900mm when used with an APS-C camera).[iv]

“Since announcing the development of this lens in January this year, we have been receiving many positive comments from photographers across Europe who are eagerly awaiting its launch,” said Yann Salmon Legagneur, Director IP&S Marketing, Sony Europe. “By adding this 300mm lens to the existing 400mm/600mm fixed super-telephoto lenses[v], we aim to meet the diverse needs arising in various shooting environments for both professional and amateur photographers, especially sports and wildlife photographers who require a wide range, convenient portability, and high shooting speed.”

Key features

G Master telephoto lens that captures decisive moments with high resolution and beautiful bokeh

Thanks to Sony's latest technologies, the high resolution and beautiful bokeh of G Master allow the subject to stand out clearly, and precise AF captures decisive moments when shooting sports, news reports, events, and wildlife. An innovative optical design utilizes three Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and one ED glass element, optimally arranged for maximum effective suppression of chromatic aberrations and achieving high resolution and contrast throughout the frame. Exceptional resolution and contrast are maintained right to the edge of the frame, allowing greater flexibility in cropping and editing.

The beautiful smooth bokeh, a hallmark of the G Master series, perfectly complements the lens with its 300mm focal length and maximum aperture of F2.8, allowing the use of a shallow depth of field so that subjects stand out against the background. Each lens is individually calibrated during the manufacturing process for optimal bokeh quality. The circular 11-blade aperture mechanism contributes to smoother bokeh from light circles.

High-quality AF that captures dynamic moments and high-speed continuous shooting with AE/AF tracking up to 120 fpsii

The combination of two of the latest XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and the latest control algorithms provides AF with high speed and precision at low vibration levels. You get high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking up to 120 frames per second. This allows you to capture dynamic subjects without missing any opportunities, even when shooting scenes where the subject moves quickly, such as sports events or animals, and scenes where the subject moves unpredictably, such as at large events. In addition, the high AF performance is maintained even with a teleconverter attached, iii which is sold separately.

Exceptional mobility and convenient operation to assist professionals shooting outdoors

Thanks to the measures taken to significantly reduce weight, this is the lightest lens in its classi, weighing approximately 1470g (without tripod mount), and has been developed with special attention to weight distribution. A durable magnesium alloy is used for the inner barrel of the lens to achieve both strength and lightness. The weight is not concentrated at the front of the barrel, making the lens extremely stable and allowing flexible and precise panning while shooting handheld. In addition, MODE3[vi], which provides greater stability in the viewfinder and optimizes the image stabilization algorithm, allows you to accurately capture every dynamic scene.

You can also set "preset focus" to the function control ring, allowing instant focus adjustment to any position[vii]. In addition, the camera offers convenient features for professional shooting, including focus hold buttons located in four separate places, so you can assign your favorite functions from the camera body.
