Merging Past and Present: NIKON releases the iconic Z f
Nikon Introduces its Newest Mirrorless Camera – the Z F
The Z f's combination of heritage design and superior performance makes it a must-have addition to any gear bag.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 20 September 2023: Today, Nikon announced the release of its Z f – its newest full-frame FX-format mirrorless camera which combines a heritage design with advanced technology and superior performance. Inspired by the iconic FM2, the camera looks as good as it feels in the hands of creators and photographers alike.
Equipped with the same EXPEED 7 image-processing engine as the Nikon Z 9, the Z f enables advanced still-image and video recording. Delivering both style and substance, it boasts state-of-the-art technology, including exceptional AF and VR performance, making it the ideal camera for those looking to express their creativity.

This authentic classic camera looks as good as it shoots. Whether in your hand or positioned on a coffee table, the Z f is guaranteed to create a beautiful and effortlessly retro aesthetic. Placing luxury at the heart of the product, the magnesium alloy body has an elegant, glossy finish beautifully complemented by the faux leather. And the control dials, shutter-release button, and power switch are all made from brass, providing a premium, high-quality feel. To top it off, users will be able to choose from six different premium exterior colour options to customise the camera and further align it with their individual style.
Adaptable, lightweight, and compact, the Z f is the perfect companion for any trip, shoot, or day out. Furthermore, deceptively powerful, the Z f will allow you to turn your hand to landscape, street, portrait photography, and more, thanks to its incredible capabilities that rival professional cameras.
Whether you want to capture people or wildlife, the camera’s outstanding AF tracking performance enables you to maintain focus on moving subjects with speed, sharpness, and accuracy. In addition to advanced video recording, the Z f is also the world’s first camera* to support focus-point VR, which suppresses blurring around your focus point, ensuring your content stands out from the crowd.

For those drawn to the allure of black-and-white photography – look no further. The Z f is equipped with two new Picture Controls: Flat Monochrome and Deep Tone Monochrome, allowing photographers to utilise light and shadows to their advantage and experiment with different tones. The camera also now has a dedicated black-and-white switch, allowing users to seamlessly transition into black-and-white shooting mode. This new addition will allow photographers to immerse themselves in the shot without any distractions.
The versatile camera is precisely crafted to accompany you on late-night shoots, too, whether capturing the electric atmosphere of a party or the eerie silence of nature while the rest of the world sleeps, this is the tool to have to bring your artistic vision into practice. In fact, the Z f surpasses semi-professional cameras with even higher ISO values, meaning you can capture crystal-clear images even in the most challenging lighting conditions, proving the Z f is a fearless camera that certainly isn’t afraid of the dark.
Zurab Kiknadze, Product Manager, Nikon Europe: “We are excited to finally share the Nikon Z f with the rest of the world. This authentic, classic camera truly embodies the essence of Nikon, paying homage to the brand with a sentimental nod to our rich history while also showcasing the incredible forward-thinking steps we constantly take to evolve and create. Combining the future with the past, we have been able to combine an endless sense of class and elegance with unrivalled creativity and innovation. The Z f offers creators the chance to seize the moment, be bold, be creative, and most importantly, capture extraordinary and standout images that make people look twice.”
Key Z f Features from Nikon Include:
Heritage Design Inspired by the Iconic FM2
When it comes to the Z f, the influence of Nikon's heritage is clearly evident in the details. The retro-inspired exterior reflects the iconic FM2, as do the introduction of the control dials, shutter-release button, and the addition of the 1970s Nikon logo. All of its control dials are made of precisely rolled brass, which gives them a high-quality feel. Image creators will be able to choose from six different premium exterior colour options in addition to the all-black standard model to customise the camera and further align it with their individual style.
New Features that Expand Possibilities for Imaging Expression
In addition to the conventional monochrome Picture Control, the Z f is equipped with two new Picture Controls: Flat Monochrome and Deep Tone Monochrome. A dedicated black-and-white position has been added to the photo and video selector to allow instant switching between controls. The camera is also equipped with various other inspiring functions and features, including Creative Picture Control and pixel-shift shooting – a feature that the Z f is the first to support.
Enhanced Video Performance for Diverse Needs
The new camera offers some exciting video features, including 10-bit H.265 in-camera recording, as well as the ability to record up to 125 minutes of 4K UHD. Other features are inherited from the Z 9, including the ability to adjust ISO sensitivity in 1/6 EV steps and a red frame display during video recording.
Superior Performance Using State-of-the-Art Technologies
The Z f is powered by the latest EXPEED 7 image-processing engine, which enables high ISO capability. In addition, in addition to having the same nine types of subject detection featured in the Z 8, tracking performance when subject detection is used has also been improved. The camera is further supported by in-body Vibration Reduction and enhanced electronic VR, which improve image quality when shooting in dimly lit or dark indoor situations.
