Sigma Expands Range of f1.2 Lenses for Sony E and L-Mount

Exquisitely beautiful rendering to take advantage of the F1.2 brightness
The SIGMA 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art is designed with an emphasis on high resolution from wide open aperture throughout the entire focal range and large, beautifully rendered bokeh. The contrast between the sharpness in the focal plane and the melting bokeh effect creates a three-dimensional feel thanks to the large F1.2 aperture. In addition, the 13-blade diaphragm allows for beautiful background bokeh. Focus breathing is also well suppressed, so at F1.2, the lens can be fully utilized for video recording.
F1.2 aperture and high resolution from minimum focusing distance to infinity
The latest optical design achieves high resolution, and any aberration is fully suppressed at maximum aperture. The lens is capable of rendering details without color bleeding in any situation. In addition, the built-in floating focus is the main reason for improving performance at short focusing distances, providing stable, high-level image quality across the range from minimum focal distance to infinity.
Rich and beautiful bokeh without color bleeding
By correcting spherical aberrations, sagittal coma, axial chromatic, and other aberrations, the lens delivers natural bokeh images that blur smoothly and without color bleed from the focal plane. Dual-line bokeh is also suppressed, allowing users to take advantage of the soft bokeh effect in the image.
Rounded 13-blade diaphragm
For this lens, SIGMA has for the first time used a rounded 13-blade diaphragm that maintains a circular shape even when wide open. The surface accuracy of the aspherical lens has been improved to the greatest extent to allow smooth and beautiful circular bokeh images in the background.
Designed to minimize focus breathing
Optimizing the arrangement of the focusing group and the aspherical lens shape significantly suppresses focus breathing. The change in angle of view due to focus shift is minimized, creating a natural-looking focus shift when recording video.
Designed to minimize flare and ghosting
Flare and ghosting, which reduce image quality, have been addressed under all conditions of incident light, based on the most advanced simulation technology. High resistance to backlighting allows for clear and sharp images in all lighting conditions.
The lightest lens in its class*, suitable for a wide range of applications
Through an uncompromising pursuit of high optical quality and low weight, which are inherently contradictory, the highest level of quality is condensed into the lightest lens body in its class. The SIGMA 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art can be used in a wide variety of situations and applications.

Dual HLA motor featuring a new focusing system
A new system has been developed that significantly reduces volume while maintaining the same power of the HLA motors, which are characterized by quietness and high precision operation, and is featured in each of the two focusing groups. This technological innovation achieves both high-speed autofocus and a compact lens body.
The dimensions of the optical and mechanical constructions of the lens have been reduced to an absolute minimum
Each glass element is made as thin as possible, using high refractive index glass elements and four aspherical lenses. The high level of manufacturing technology at SIGMA's sole production base, the Aizu factory, provides the maximum precision required for processing these thin glass elements and makes this mass production possible. In addition, the floating focus provides high performance while shortening the overall length, resulting in a compact lens. In the design phase of the mechanical construction of the lens, the emphasis was placed on reducing weight. By systematically eliminating individual components, SIGMA achieved the unique result of producing the lightest lens in its class, weighing only 745g*
A wealth of features for professional use and excellent build quality
In addition to various functions that make it easier for photographers, such as the AFL* button and the aperture control ring, the effect sought was also for the lens body's construction itself to make its use enjoyable for photographers. The SIGMA 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art is designed with high functionality and reliability to meet the stringent demands of professionals, as well as excellent build quality for long-lasting and reliable use.
* Function available only on supported cameras. Available functions may vary depending on the camera used.
We are proud to present a unique photographic tool with excellent build quality and the high quality of SIGMA's Art line
By assembling high-precision parts made from lightweight and strong TSC* and other materials, the lens has the high level of durability characteristic of SIGMA's Art line specifications, without sacrificing portability, as well as excellent build quality that allows for the longevity and reliability of this photographic tool.
* TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) is a type of polycarbonate with a coefficient of thermal expansion similar to that of aluminum. It has a high affinity for metal parts, contributing to the high-quality production of the product.
Various features assisting photographers during shooting
The lens is equipped with an AFL button, which can be assigned a set of functions via the camera menu. In addition to the aperture control ring, the lens is equipped with a switch for locking it and a switch for turning its click on and off when rotating.
Dust- and splash-resistant construction* and water- and oil-repellent coating
In addition to the dust- and splash-resistant construction, the front lens element features a water- and oil-repellent coating, allowing photographers to shoot without worry even in harsh outdoor environments.
*The construction is designed to be dust- and splash-resistant, but not waterproof. Be careful not to let the lens come into contact with large amounts of water. Water in the lens can cause major damage and even render the lens unrepairable.
Petal-type lens hood with lock
A petal-type lens hood equipped with a locking mechanism is included in the kit.
