Panasonic announces the release of firmware version 2.2 for the GH6
Panasonic announced that it is releasing a firmware update program, version 2.2, for its LUMIX GH6, to support direct recording and playback of video/photos to an external SSD connected via USB.
With the latest firmware, it will be possible to record Apple ProRes 422 HQ (maximum 1.9 Gbps) with high quality and low compression, or 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra with a high bit rate and large volume directly to a USB drive (SSD) with a maximum capacity of 2TB. Data files recorded on the SSD can be easily transferred to a computer via USB connection, simplifying backup operations and making the post-production process more efficient.

Panasonic continues to follow its philosophy of continuous development and improvement by implementing advanced firmware solutions in its mirrorless cameras to enable more flexible workflows in film production.
- Video at a high frame rate exceeding 60.00p cannot be recorded to an external SSD.
- It is not possible to record video and photos simultaneously to the SD card or CFexpress card while recording to the external SSD.
- Use an external SSD with a size of no more than 2 TB that is compatible with USB Type-C. We recommend using an external SSD whose operation has been confirmed by Panasonic. Please note in advance that this is not a guarantee of operation for all devices.
- The latest information on external SSDs will be available on the following support site simultaneously with the release of the firmware: https://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/connect/index.html
