Sony launches the newest addition to its G Master™ full-frame lens series - the indispensable FE 35mm F1.4 GM

Yesterday, Sony introduced the FE 35mm F1.4 GM (model SEL35F14GM) – the latest addition to the company's widely popular G Master full-frame lens series, which offers premium image quality and beautiful bokeh for more creative possibilities, all packed into an exceptionally compact and lightweight design. The FE 35mm F1.4 GM is a must-have for all users of Sony's E-mount, as in combination with Sony cameras, the lens offers enhanced focusing capabilities, making it ideal for a wide variety of applications, such as landscape, portrait, and street photography, for both stills and video shooting.

The best resolution in a compact lens

Sony's advanced optical design and manufacturing technologies enable exceptional resolution, delightful bokeh, and focus precision in a compact lens that fits comfortably in the hand and weighs only 524 grams, with dimensions of just 76 mm diam. x 96 mm and a filter diameter of Φ67mm. The FE 35mm F1.4 GM uses the latest optical technologies, ensuring stunning contrast and superior resolution. Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements effectively maintain superb resolution throughout the image. The compact 35mm lens is not only easy to carry and operate but also performs admirably in challenging lighting conditions. ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and other optical enhancements effectively suppress chromatic aberration for breathtaking results.

Beautiful bokeh for more creative possibilities

The FE 35mm F1.4 GM offers an almost circular aperture thanks to its 11-blade construction – a rare level of quality for a portable lens. Meticulous control over the removal of spherical aberrations, applied from the development stage to the production stage, allows you to enjoy the beautiful G Master bokeh that makes subjects truly stand out.

Two innovative XA elements allow the capture of seemingly impossible close-up shots with smooth and gentle background bokeh. The combination of a maximum F1.4 aperture and the flexibility that the freedom to choose the ideal shooting distance (minimum focusing distance of only 27cm with a maximum magnification of 0.23x in autofocus mode) gives you, allows you to exercise maximum control and achieve impressive bokeh in both stills and videos.

Advanced focus for better images

Two Sony XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors provide the efficiency needed for precise AF (autofocus) and tracking, delivering incredible resolution regardless of distance. State-of-the-art control algorithms, developed specifically for the XD linear motors, improve response time and precision while minimizing vibrations and noise for fast, smooth, and quiet AF.

These enhanced autofocus capabilities are also applicable when shooting at high frame rates.

Linear response manual focus is ideal for creative effects when working with focus in video shooting mode, as it ensures that the focus ring responds to even the subtlest commands during manual focusing. Rotating the focusing ring directly translates into the corresponding change in focus, giving you a sense of direct and precise control.

Professional control and reliability

The FE 35mm F1.4 GM offers full professional control with a focus hold button and a focus mode switch for smooth and efficient operation. The aperture control ring with switchable clicks can be turned off in video shooting mode, and when used with an APS-C camera or in Super 35 mode, the lens becomes a 52.5mm standard equivalent, making the FE 35mm F1.4 GM the ideal choice when you want to shoot videos. Other functions can be assigned to the focus hold button from the camera menu, providing direct access to functions that are important for both photographers and cinematographers. The lens is designed with reliable dust and moisture protection* with a fluorine coating on the front elements that repels water, oil, and other contaminants.

Price and availability

The new FE 35mm F1.4 GM will be available in late January through various authorized Sony retailers at an approximate retail price of BGN 3,399.
