Nikon introduces the NIKON Z fc mirrorless camera
Nikon's unique Z fc combines iconic design with Z series innovations
Capture your iconic moments
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, June 29, 2021: Today, Nikon introduces the DX-format mirrorless camera Nikon Z fc – the first in the Z series to have a "heritage" design while maintaining advanced features. The exterior of the Nikon Z fc is inspired by the iconic Nikon FM2 SLR film camera, released in 1982 – a pivotal product in Nikon's history. Alongside the camera itself, Nikon is releasing two new lens kits that complement its heritage style: the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR silver edition and the NIKKOR Z 28mm f/2.8 SE.
The compact and lightweight body of the Nikon Z fc makes it easily portable, yet the camera offers superb functionality and image rendering capability, making it easy to operate for both experienced and new mirrorless camera users.
Key features of the Nikon Z fc include:
Design inspired by a legendary camera
Here, the emotion is in the details. The design of the pentaprism and the balance between black and silver elements on the Nikon Z fc's body recall the FM2, as do the round electronic viewfinder (EVF) eyepiece, the design of the control dials, and the engraved Nikon logo from the 1970-1980 period. Meanwhile, reliable robustness is achieved through the use of magnesium alloy.
Simplified operation and creative expression
On the top of the Nikon Z fc's camera body, there are three control dials and a display window showing the aperture. The dials control shutter speed, exposure compensation, and ISO sensitivity, allowing settings to be changed with simple operation. Additionally, the i button and i menu, which allow users to quickly adjust various settings with the press of a button, can be customized based on individual shooting preferences.
For the first time, a Nikon Z series camera supports exposure compensation in auto mode, allowing Nikon Z fc users to achieve their desired expression by increasing brightness, enhancing silhouettes, and more. The camera also features 20 Creative Picture Control options that help with their unique way of expression. By selecting themes with various parameters, such as hue, toning, and saturation, users can express diverse moods, as well as adjust effects to their liking.
Improved focusing capabilities and shooting from different angles
The Nikon Z fc supports eye-detection AF and animal-detection AF for still images and videos – features first introduced in the Nikon Z 7II and Nikon Z 6II cameras. The AF-area mode selection – Wide-area AF (L) – is supported, further enhancing the clear capture of eyes and faces by limiting the focusing area. Continuous focusing on the eyes of the subject can also be achieved when multiple people are in the frame, or tracking the eyes of a moving pet.
Capturing clear photos and videos in dark environments is possible by covering a wide standard ISO sensitivity range from 100 to 51,200*. In addition, the first-time implementation of a vari-angle display in a Z series camera allows for vertical shooting from low or high angles. When the display is rotated forward, the camera automatically switches to self-portrait mode, enabling smooth selfie shooting with a touch.
More connectivity options via SnapBridge version 2.8
The SnapBridge app can be used to transfer photos and videos recorded with the camera to a smart device**, making it easy for users to share them on social media. Through the app, you can also get the latest firmware for the camera.
Snapbridge version 2.8 has a new user interface that supports two automatic connection modes: foreground and background. Foreground mode connects to the camera only when the app is active, which reduces battery drain. Background mode provides a constant connection for automatic image transfer even when the app is not active.
