Canon EOS R6 Mark II - The fastest EOS R system camera to date

Canon EOS R6 Mark II - Най-бързият фотоапарат от системата EOS R досега

Don't compromise on your creativity: conquer new heights in photography with the fast EOS R6 Mark II

The fastest EOS R System camera yet.

Sofia, Bulgaria, November 2, 2022 – Today, Canon expands its cutting-edge EOS R System with its fastest and most advanced full-frame mirrorless camera yet, the EOS R6 Mark II, featuring 40 fps continuous shooting, incredible low-light autofocus, and 6K RAW / 4K UHD video recording. As the newest model in the hybrid shooting lineup, the EOS R6 Mark II harnesses the powerful potential of the RF mount and redefines the standards set by the EOS R6. It raises the bar for still and video capture with its unique combination of class-leading features, breathtaking speed, stability, and professional video recording capabilities.

Unrivalled focus

Utilizing the same DIGIC X processor that powers the EOS R5, EOS R6, and the flagship EOS-1D X Mark III, combined with the new 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, the EOS R6 Mark II supports the acclaimed next-generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology, delivering unparalleled levels of speed and reliability.

The EOS R6 Mark II can track subjects in precise focus as they move across the scene. Using an advanced AI algorithm, it recognizes people, vehicles[i] – including now planes and trains – and animals, including now horses/zebras[ii]. The type of object to recognize can be selected via the menu or by using the new "Auto" function depending on the scenarios the photographer is shooting in. Through the eye-tracking function, users can specify which eye (left or right) should be prioritized for focusing, and when eyes cannot be recognized, the EOS R6 Mark II focuses on the face in the frame instead. Even if the person turns away for a moment, the camera continues to track their head, and if the head is not visible, it continues to track the body.

The EOS R6 Mark II is equipped with the world's most effective image stabilization system for shooting with up to 8 stops[iii] slower shutter speed. By utilizing a combined image stabilizer – optical plus in-camera – it is capable of shooting long exposures without a tripod with exceptional clarity and sharpness. Photographers can also capture the atmosphere regardless of conditions – focusing clearly in light down to -6.5 EV[iv] and shooting with sensitivity up to ISO 102,400.

Next-generation speed for the EOS R System

Setting new speed records, the EOS R6 Mark II is Canon's fastest EOS to date[v]. It can shoot continuously at up to 40 fps[vi] with an electronic shutter (also 20 fps and 5 fps options) and up to 12 fps with a mechanical shutter, capturing moments almost imperceptible to the human eye. Compared to the EOS R6, the new sensor reduces rolling shutter distortion, allowing the camera's electronic shutter to be used to "freeze" the motion of dynamic subjects.

In addition, the EOS R6 Mark II keeps up with photographers' needs thanks to its RAW burst mode pre-shooting function, which saves ½ second of action before shooting begins – a great advantage when photographing unpredictable subjects, from tennis players to young children. RAW burst mode shoots at 30 fps for a total of up to 191 frames, saving each image in a separate CR3 file – all with AF tracking. Individual images can be extracted from this series using Canon's Digital Photo Professional software or via the camera and saved as individual JPEG, HEIF, or RAW files.

Answering the demand for advanced video recording capabilities

Utilizing the full width of the sensor, the EOS R6 Mark II is the only camera in its class[vii] that can record 4K 60p UHD video while simultaneously focusing with the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system. All 4K recordings are created by oversampling from the sensor's 6K data, resulting in superior image quality. For solo videographers looking for even wider capabilities, the EOS R6 Mark II outputs a 6K RAW signal via HDMI, which can be recorded by an Atomos Ninja V+ recorder in ProRes RAW format. This provides higher detail, as well as the ability to adjust certain parameters, such as white balance, during post-processing.

Users can utilize the video pre-recording mode – when enabled, the last 3 or 5 seconds of video are recorded by the camera in standby mode, allowing action to be captured even before the record button is pressed. Ideal for once-in-a-lifetime moments or unpredictable scenes.

The EOS R6 Mark II features an improved electronic architecture, allowing for extended recording time – over 40 minutes of oversampled 4K 60p recording or up to 6 hours of 4K 30p recording[viii] (the 29.59-minute recording limit of the previous model has been removed) – depending on ambient temperature, memory card capacity, and battery charge.

Helping content creators and videographers meet the growing demand for impactful stills and video, the innovative EOS R6 Mark II can record incredible slow-motion video with autofocus support in Full HD format at frame rates up to 179.82fps. During video recording, the False Color function can be used as a guide for exposure settings, which is particularly useful in situations where overexposure is likely to occur. With HDR support via PQ and Canon's popular Canon Log 3 format, content creators can capture breathtakingly realistic video and achieve greater expressiveness – immersing the viewer in the content. When used with compatible lenses[ix], the EOS R6 Mark II also applies focus breathing correction, which compensates for changes in angle of view during focusing, creating a truly cinematic effect.

Smart connectivity for content delivery

With updated Bluetooth v.5 and Wi-Fi (5GHz), the EOS R6 Mark II can easily connect to smartphones and networks for high-speed file sharing and FTP/FTPS/SFTP transfer, enabling easy editing and sharing even on the go. The camera can also be controlled remotely via the Camera Connect and EOS Utility apps when connected to a PC, Mac, or smartphone via Wi-Fi or a high-speed USB-C connection. For semi-professional photographers and content creators, sending content is just as important as capturing images and videos. The EOS R6 Mark II supports automatic image transfer via mobile device to the image.canon cloud platform for easy sharing and printing of images.

The EOS R6 Mark II can be used as a webcam for PC and Mac computers running video calling applications such as Skype, Zoom, and Teams, without the need to install additional software. This plug-and-play technology is compatible with standard USB Video Class (UVC) and USB Audio Class (UAC) drivers, which are built into Windows and macOS operating systems. The camera provides improved image quality compared to standard computer webcams – very suitable for making a good impression in online video calls.

Extended creativity for content creators

Users of existing EOS and EOS R systems will easily master the EOS R6 Mark II, offering familiar intuitive navigation and proven ergonomics. Equipped with a next-generation multi-function shoe, the EOS R6 Mark II can be used with a new range of accessories, including the recently launched SPEEDLITE EL-5. These accessories can be used without additional cables, and in some cases, without additional batteries.

The camera body features Canon's characteristic robustness and is resistant to adverse weather conditions. A high-resolution 3.69 million dot electronic viewfinder offers a crystal-clear view when shooting stills or video, as it refreshes at 120 frames per second. In addition, the EOS R6 Mark II inherits the optical viewfinder simulation function from the EOS R3, which provides a natural view with good detail in dark and bright areas, excellent visibility in dark places and gradation. The EOS R6 Mark II is compatible with the same LP-E6 batteries and battery grip as the EOS R6, but with the advantage that battery life is extended by approximately 50% when using the LCD screen.

Canon Camera Connect app

Alongside the launch of the EOS R6 Mark II, Canon also announces an update to its Camera Connect app, which provides a fresh new look and feel, as well as improved connectivity and simplified operation. The v.3 update transforms the app into a central portal, providing users with easy access to other Canon software products and services, such as the printing app or the image.canon cloud service. Through the app, Canon users can connect their camera to a smartphone or tablet to control it remotely, make fine image adjustments, download or share them while on the go, and even download firmware updates for their camera[x].

Also launched today are the RF 135mm F1.8L IS USM – a telephoto prime lens ideal for low-light portrait photography, and the SPEEDLITE EL-5 – a high-quality Speedlite flash for wedding and event photography.
